We may never know Gillibrand’s true intentions; however, I suggest that one virtually ignore a vote that’s cast against something that she knew she couldn’t win anyway. Had the Dem vote been cast in that way unanimously, that would be a far more serious situation and cautious cause for celebration. Gillibrand’s vote may or may have not been based on conviction. It also may or may not be just like the normal shrewdness that Republicans display when they cast votes that they don’t believe in for reasons of expediency and to position themselves as Compassionate Conservatives. In other words, Gillibrand just might be positioning herself to assume Warren’s & Bernie’s withering thrones as the most Progressive of Liberals; which means nothing in effect if the Centrist and neoliberals aren’t dethroned in the process.
Nevertheless, this was a good and necessary article.
